Digital 8 camcorders were the next step in the evolution of home movies; you finally had the crisp quality of digital processing (assuming you were a decent camera operator). Only down side was that now the 8mm tapes only held one hour instead of two. The digital audio took up a lot more room than in the case od your older camcorder. You still had the same old problem of having to connect your camera to the TV to watch the movie, and the problems of tape breakage, aging, etc. to deal with.
